Show file extensions in windows

When you have files in a folder and they don’t show the extension, you might not be able to do tasks that require editing the extension. If you want to turn a .txt file into a .bat file, you have to see the extension to edit it.

In windows vista hit the ALT key to get the hidden menu to pop up with File, Edit, View, Tools, Help

Hit Tools > folder options

tools-folder-options-after-alt

The folder options window will pop open.

hide-extensions

Uncheck the “Hide extensions for known file types”

Hit apply. Hit the “apply to folders” button if you don’t want to do this for each folder in the future.

That is it! You should be able to see all the happy .docx, .zip etc type file extensions.
