Check your own machine name and user name
Vista-
Start >in the start search box type COMMAND PROMPT
At the command prompt type WHOAMI and hit return . It outputs computer\user
Restart explorer the quick easy way
Hit start, then in a blank area (like in the pic on the black area below) hold control shift and right click. Choose exit explorer
To start it again, use tip #10, control shift escape
Then
File>new task
type in EXPLORER and hit enter. explorer will reload

Start a program minimized
I hate when I end up with a program in the startup folder that starts maximized. Here are the steps for any program to start minimized-
Find the shortcut to it, like in start>programs> startup
Right click on the shortcut and select “Properties”
Under Run you can select different actions
Select Minimized and hit [...]
Turn off UAC – this is generally a bad idea. But if you know what you are doing it is pretty easy.
start> control panel>user accounts
click turn user account control on or off
uncheck, hit ok and reboot
To get rid of the warning that now pops up (also not a good idea)
start>control panel> Security Center
